A Lighter, Cooler Shade of Green:
Demonstrated Energy Efficient Lighting & HVAC Technologies

Bi-level Exterior Lighting
Integrated Office Lighting

Energy efficient lighting systems are priority agenda items for many campuses seeking ways to reach Net Zero. In the pursuit of Net Zero and lowered energy costs, the quality of the experience in the designed environment should not be compromised. Products that improve environments and reduce energy use have a competitive edge. In the PIER portfolio of lighting products, the goal is to address both of these objectives.

Campus facilities are an excellent proving ground to demonstrate these technologies and collect case study information. This presentation will highlight the UCSB Recreation Center and the measures taken to move this facility towards Net Zero, including results from emerging, energy-efficient, and lighting technology demonstrations conducted at the Recreation Center facilities.

The demonstrations include recent additions to the commercial PIER portfolio and other established PIER technologies including:

  • Daylighting controllers
  • Energy Star® rated LED downlights
  • Integrated office lighting systems
  • Bi-level parking area and parking garage luminaires
  • Bi-level HID wall packs

Case studies and technical specifications on each of these products are available to offer insight into which technology is appropriate for varied application scenarios and budgets.

The University of California, California State University, California Community College, the state of California and other public facilities are active partners in demonstration of these technologies. Lighting technologies demonstrated at UCSB will be used as tools to build understanding of how PIER research and demonstration programs can support a campus move toward Net Zero.
