The PIER State Partnership for Energy Efficiency Demonstrations is bringing newly developed building technologies and deployment approaches into effective use throughout a wide range of California venues. These include the University of California and California State University campus systems, the California community colleges, the state Department of General Services, and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. In particular, the program aims to demonstrate and apply new lighting and HVAC technologies in various campus settings. Program elements include pilot projects, multi-campus purchases, field data collection, technology evaluations, and information dissemination throughout these demonstration sites. This program is managed by the CIEE as part of the University of California Office of the President (UCOP).
The demonstration program highlights technologies developed under a unique collaborative process that leverages public research and development (R&D) funds to help manufacturers bring innovative, energy-efficient products into the commercial marketplace.

More than 30 technology demonstrations have been completed as part of the program, with many more coming in the next two years. Demonstrated annual energy cost savings to date from the campus-based programs alone have been $133,000, and estimated annual project-wide savings should top $2.8 million. Broader commercial market adoption of the technologies would yield far greater savings.
More information is available on individual technologies and the PIER demonstration program.
This program's funding is provided by the California Energy Commission's Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Program. The program supports the development and market connection of innovative energy efficiency technologies and practices.
